String puppet rockstars, house cat plotting world domination, and dinosaur gladiators. These are just a few things you can expect to see from the fourth installment of the 13 time Emmy Award-winning series “Love, Death + Robots”. Created by Tim Miller, the series features a collection of anthology shorts in the realm of sci-fi mixed with horror and humor.
The Movie Couple, along with other journalists, was invited to attend the premiere at The Egyptian Theater in Los Angeles and talk to the creatives and cast about the upcoming season.
Creator Tim Miller talks curating stories for Vol. 4, “We just try to give everybody a little more variety then we had in the past.” As an example, Miller mentions the David Fincher-directed episode featuring Red Hot Chili Peppers as string-puppets, as well as a live-action episode. “Other than that I really just keep picking stories that I think are cool and interesting.”
In “Spider Rose”, audiences will return to the same cyberpunk universe of “Swarm” (Vol. 3) under the direction of Supervising Director Jennifer Yuh Helson, with story by Bruce Sterling. Taking place on a remote asteroid mining operation, a grieving Mechanist acquires a new companion and plans to get revenge against the assassin who killed her husband.
On adapting Bruce Sterling’s story into animation Nelson says, “Trying to make sure that the emotion comes across in 15 minutes is really yard, and that you would feel this connection between Rose and this pet, and what it allows her to feel again. Emotions are the hardest to do in animation.”
Voice talents Emily O’Brien (Rose) and Sumalee Montano (Little Nose for Profit) return to the series in this episode.

What’s the Best Way To Watch “Love, Death + Robots”?
LDR is a collection of anthology shorts, so there is no designated order in which one chooses to watch the episode. Creator Tim Miller says, “We pick the order that we think works best,” where he tries to balance out the lighter episodes with the darker episodes. “If people stumble on the show, you don’t want to give them something too hardcore because a lot of people would just turn off. You want to start with something light and ease them into it.”
“Love, Death + Robots: Vol. 4” will premiere with 10 episodes on Netflix on May 15
