Shuang Hu’s Viral Series “Baby Shu & Fwends” Releases Exclusively On TUBI

Australian actress Shuang Hu (@TheOneShu across social media) is known for her character Baby Shu, a sharp-witted teen who often lets chaos reign. “Baby Shu and Fwends” follows her and her many adventures with friends, blending dark comedy and social satire through the lens of teen-hood in the digital age.

“Baby Shu and Fwends” is the first licensed YouTube series to be released exclusively on TUBI, where audiences can binge five episodes at a time. The episodes will later be released on a weekly basis. The series follows Baby Shu, a mischievous, emotionally unhinged teenager, whose imagination distorts reality in unsettling, hilarious, and thought-provoking ways. Each standalone episode dives into a new high-concept world – from AI dolls and body swaps to memory loss and algorithmic nightmares – blending dark comedy, sci-fi, and social satire through the lens of childhood innocence gone rogue. Think “Black Mirror” meets “Goosebumps” filtered through Gen Alpha humor and controlled chaos.

The Movie Couple recently spoke with Hu about the origin of the character, how the series was picked up by TUBI, and more.

How Did the Character Baby Shu Come About?

For new viewers who may not be familiar with Baby Shu, Hu talks about the character creation and reveals that she got the idea from her mom.

Shuang Hu: Baby Shu was born about three years ago. It was when I was on vacation in Spain and my mom gave me this idea. A lot of my ideas actually come from my mom. She’ll send me these like pages from these books. So she has these books of these life skills, and these proverbs and these riddles and she would just send me them and then I would think of a way to make it into a skit.

This is also the first time Hu played all of the characters in her skit.

Hu: So this very first skit, was when [my mom] sent me this idea. I was in Spain and there was no one around at the time, any other creatives, it was just me so for the first time I played all the characters in my skit.

How Did the Series Find Its Way To TUBI?

The popularity of Baby Shu has garnered hundreds of thousands of views across social media platforms. Now, the series has made its way to TUBI. Hu talks about how the series was picked up by the streamer.

I realized I had to expand the world.

Shuang Hu: So after I’d made four episodes, well, technically seven because I had made three, which are the ones on YouTube right now. They were in a different world. It was just me, and that’s why I called it “Baby Shu & Fwiends” because it was me and like four other friends in this room, and I was going to play like it was a fantasy world and just make like make up things and play pretend with a lot of the scenarios. And then after I started writing three, I was like, “Wait, this is really actually hard to continue writing in this one room like infinite stories.” So I realized I had to expand the world. And then I got other creatives on board, in the writing room, in the writers’ room, and then we just made this into almost like a Black Mirror for a younger audience. Where every episode is an anthology and every episode is different. And there’s different genres where like genre-bending. Like there’s one horror and then there’s like a thriller and then there’s a romcom.

“Baby Shu & Fwends” is now streaming on TUBI.
