The official trailer for The Marvels has dropped, and it gives us a little more explanation on why our superheroes switch places whenever they use their power. Their powers are connected to light – Carol Danvers absorbs it, Monica Rambeau sees it, and Kamala Kahn manipulates it into physical matter. The new villain for the movie, Dar-Benn (Zawe Ashton), has attained the other bangle that is worn by Kamala/Ms. Marvel, and uses it to disrupt the light, causing our heroes’ powers to become entangled.
We’ll find out in the movie why Dar-Benn and Captain Marvel are at odds, as she says “You have taken everything from me. And now I’m returning the favor.” to Carol. This will also be the first time we get to see Carol and Monica interact. Monica Rambeau is the daughter of the late Maria Rambeau (Lashana Lynch) who we met in Captain Marvel. It seems that even though Monica is quite cold toward Carol, she has been keeping magazine clippings of Monica’s accomplishments next to a photo of Maria.
Also making her MCU theatrical debut is Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel. Audiences who tuned in to the Disney+ series Ms. Marvel have already met the character, but in the upcoming film will be the first time she gets to meet Carol Danvers. Kamala is a huge fan of Captain Marvel, and her earnest and charming personality will surely provide some comedic moments in the film.

The Marvels is directed by Nia DeCosta and will land in theaters on November 10, 2023.
