The official trailer for “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” introduces Shadow (voiced by Keanu Reeves) as the newest antagonist in the Sonic the Hedgehog cinematic universe. According to the Sonic the Hedgehog lore, Shadow was created by Professor Gerald Robotnik, grandfather to Doctor Eggman. He first appeared in Sonic Adventure 2 (2001)
In the trailer, it is alluded that Shadow has a similar beginning to Sonic but suffers from pain and loss that leads him down the path of revenge. Doctor Robotnik (Jim Carrey) and his grandfather will also be in the film to create more chaos for Team Sonic. We also get a quick glimpse at Maria Robotnik, Shadow’s best friend, in a flashback sequence. From the looks of it, “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” will be action-packed and slightly darker than the previous two films.
Ben Schwartz will return to voice the titular character Sonic, with Colleen O’Shaughnessey as Tails, Idris Elba as Knuckles, Jimy Carrey as Dr. Robotnik, James Marsden as Tom, and Tika Stumper as Maddie, and Alyla Browne as Maria.
