Get ready to set sail again with Moana and demigod Maui in the upcoming sequel “Moana 2“. The teaser trailer reveals brand new adventures and the return of fan-favorite characters.
The continuation of Moana’s adventures was originally slated to be an animated series for Disney+. However, Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed that the executives were so impressed with the early footage that they decided to turn it into a theatrical release. Auli’i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson are set to reprise their roles as Moana and Maui.
Set three years after the event of the first film, Moana looks slightly older and can be seen in a new outfit. She is joined by a group of new adventurers.
What is the story of “Moana 2”?
The official synopsis is:
“Moana 2” reunites Moana and Maui three years later for an expansive new voyage alongside a crew of unlikely seafarers. After receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors, Moana must journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she’s ever faced.
Returning Characters
Aside from the Moana and Maui, the accident-prone rooster Heihei and the adorable pot-belly pig Pua are back. Maui makes a joke about the animal sidekicks being “boat snacks”, calling them “Bacon and Eggs,” before asking Moana why didn’t she bring the pig last time. As viewers may remember, Pua was all over the marketing for Moana, but the loyal pig was sorely missing for most of the movie, as he was too traumatized by the rough waves. Pua was not seen again until the end of the movie.
This time, however, it seems that both Pua and Heihei will be along for the adventure.
The Kakamora – the fierce coconut-armor-wearing pirates who chased after Moana will also return.s.
“Moana 2” is directed by David Derrick Jr., Jason Hand and Dana Ledoux Miller, and produced by Christina Chen and Yvett Merino. Featuring music by Grammy® winners Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, Grammy nominee Opetaia Foaʻi, and three-time Grammy winner Mark Mancina.
The movie swims into theaters on November 27, 2024.
