What Is the plot of “I.S.S.”?

Tensions flare in the near future aboard the International Space Station as a worldwide conflict breaks out on Earth. Reeling from this, the astronauts receive orders from the ground: take control of the station by any means necessary.

How Is “I.S.S.” As A Space Thriller?

Put six astronauts in space, add the tension of a war breaking out between their countries, and an order from their government to take over the I.S.S. by any means necessary sounds like all the right ingredients for a space thriller.

The film utilizes the language barrier between the astronauts to add the feeling of mistrust and suspicion. Will the astronauts actually carry out the order to take over? Who is going to do it first? “I.S.S.” does a great job of making even the smallest movement from one of the astronauts look as if they’re about to move on their opponent.

“I.S.S.” Stars Ariana DeBose, Chris Messina, John Gallagher Jr., Masha Mashkova, Pilou Asbæk, and Costa Ronin. Directed by Gabriela Cowperthwaite.

The tension building was good, and the situation puts strain on the existing friendships and relationships between the crew, making the eventual betrayal even more shocking. However, it became quite predictable who was going to follow the order of their government, and who was going to find an alternative situation.

The only character to swing either way was Kira (Ariana DeBose), as she was the newest addition to the crew and had the least amount of interaction with the existing astronauts.
