The South Korean girl group responsible for popular hits like “My Bag,” “Queencard,” and “Allergy” has released a brand new video for “Wife”. (G)I-DLE has revealed the track list for their upcoming second full album entitled “2”. Tracklists include:

The upbeat music video for “Wife” predominantly features the members in identical outfits and colorful wigs, with a fierce and playful presence. The music video also does not feature extravagant sets like we often see in K-pop music videos. This allows the audience to focus purely on the song lyrics and choreography. It also gives the song a deeper look.
“I cook cream soup, taste is Coco Loco
Want me your wife, but she is mm, mm, mm
I clean your room, it’s so twinkle, twinkle
Want me your wife, but she is mm, mm, mm”
At first, the lyrics elude to the traditional duties of a wife, but (G)I-DLE has always been known to add female empowerment messages into their lyrics.
“Wife, I make you feel so high
I make you feel like lie
But I don’t wanna
Wife, wife, wife, wife”
The lyrics later in the song challenge the “traditional” roles of a wife and can be interpreted as while a wife is good at cook and cleaning and other wifely duties, it doesn’t mean they should want to or have to. Another thing to notice in the music video is none of the members lip-syncs to the song until the final verse, and it can be interpreted as traditionally, wives (or women) are seen and not heard.
