Five Nights At Freddy’s Goes Heavy On The Lore But Light On Horror

Based on the popular video game of the same name, “Five Nights At Freddy’s” is now out in theaters and streaming on Peacock. The game places the player in front of multiple security screens, keeping an eye on the sinister animatronics as they fight against time and a depleting power supply.

The movie follows Michael Schmidt and his younger sister, Abby. Michael has a troubled past where his younger brother was kidnapped on a family camping trip. Unable to let go of the event, Mike attempts to dream about the incident in order to remember more clues about the kidnapper.

While struggling financially, Michael is also faced with fighting for the sole custody of his kid sister, Abby. He reluctantly takes an overnight job as the security guard of the abandoned Freddy Fazbear’s pizzeria. The more time Mike spends at the creepy pizzeria, the more he realizes there’s more than meets the eye to the animatronics.

The director understands its target audience – the fans of the game since its inception. With a ton of Easter Eggs that can be seen and heard throughout the movie, the nods at certain moments from the game will excite and satisfy long-time players.

The animatronics come to life in Five Nights At Freddy’s, thanks to the Jim Hansen Company. That’s right, the characters are 100% practical and not CGI. The Jim Hansen Company, best known as the creator of The Muppets, and have also worked on projects such as Fraggle Rock and The Dark Crystal.
