Critical Role Takes Candela Obscura and Bells Hells To A Live Audience

How do you want to do this? Well, a live show, of course! Popular TTRPG show Critical Role announces their live shows for 2024 – the first since the Mighty Nein reunion show at the OVO Arena Wembley in London in 2023. Known for their actual play series that airs weekly on Thursday nights, Critical Role has amassed millions of fans through their campaigns Vox Machina and Might Nein. The group has expanded their storytelling with the addition of Exandria Unlimited, Bells Hells, and the horror anthology series Candela Obscura.

What Is Candela Obscura?

The new role-play system was created by Taliesin Jaffe and Chris Lockey. Set in a fictional world known as the Fairelands, Candela Obscura is an original anthology horror series that follows an esoteric order of investigators, ranging from professors to criminals to mediums, who join the secret order of “Candela Obscura” and work together to confront mysterious, chaotic, and supernatural forces. The general public is unaware of the otherworldly truths of these paranormal phenomena, and the organization known as Candela Obscura works to maintain that secrecy and keep the world safe. Leveraging gaming as a story mechanic, these esoteric protectors use guile and teamwork to root out ancient horrors before they spread throughout the Fairelands.

The upcoming live show will feature a one-shot of the game, with the game’s designer, Spencer Starke, as the GM and Critical Role cast members Matthew Mercer, Laura Bailey, and Marisha Ray as investigators. Khary Payton, who was a guest star in past campaigns, will also join the show as an investigator. Taliesin Jaffe will serve as the Master of Ceremonies.

The live show takes place on May 25, 2024 at the United Theater on Broadway. Tickets are available at critrole.com/events.
A livestream of the performance will be available on Critical Role’s Twitch (twitch.tv/criticalrole) and YouTube (youtube.com/criticalrole) channels on May 30, 2024 with the VOD being made available June 3, 2024.

Bells Hells Live Show

Critical Role’s third campaign, Bells Hells, is coming up to its 98th episode, and what better way to celebrate than to take the show live? Taking place on June 15th at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles, the cast will come together to stop Ludinus Da’leth and his planned destruction of the Gods.

The adventurers of Bells Hells met in Jrusar, where they formed an alliance to battle the city’s shady characters. However, the group is dragged deeper into shadow and mystery as the Apogee Solstie approach. A plan to annihilate the Gods is to be carried out by Ludinus Da’leth unless Bells Hells can stop him.

The game will be DMed by Matthew Mercer, joined by cast members Travis Willingham, Laura Bailey, Liam O’Brien, Sam Riegel, Taliesin Jaffe, Ashley Johnson, Robbie Daymond, and Marisha Ray. Brennan Lee Mulligan from Dimension 20 will serve as the evening’s Master of Ceremonies.

Critters can experience the dice-rolling in perosn at this event. Tickets for the Bells Hells live show is available at Ticketmaster.
