“Barbie” Examines What It Means To Be Human And The Imperfection That Comes With It

Greta Gerwig‘s latest movie takes us into the world of Barbie, starring Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken. The film follows Barbie as she goes through her everyday life in Barbie Land, filled with dance parties and sleepovers. Soon, Barbie starts to experience things out of the norm – cold showers, burnt toast, flat feet, and more.

Barbie seeks out the help of “Weird Barbie”, who lives on the outskirts of Barbie Land. She tells Barbie that she needs to visit the real world to get to the bottom of it by finding the girl who played with Barbie as a child. Once the duo arrived in the real world, they soon realized everything they were used to in Barbie Land was not at all how they imagined.

More than just Barbie and Ken’s adventure into the real world, the movie explores what it means to be human and all the experience that goes into that. The movie also pays tribute to many of Barbie and Ken’s iconic looks, the variations of the dolls, their symbolism, and their impact on pop culture.

The cast of Barbie also includes America Ferrera, Issa Rae, Simu Liu, Will Ferrell, Michael Cera, Ariana Greenblatt, Alexandra Shipp, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Ncuti Gatwa, and Kate McKinnon.
