The popular animated series “Avatar: The Last Airbender” is being adapted into a live-action series for Netflix. The brand new trailer gives viewers a first look at the series, as well as characters Aang (Gordon Cormier), Katara (Kiawentiio), Sokka (Ian Ousley), Zuko (Dallas Liu), Uncle Iroh (Paul Sun-Hyung Lee), Fire Lord Ozai (Daniel Dae Kim), and more.

The trailer shows the powerful Fire Nation as they mercilessly attack an Air Temple. “The Fire Nation is embarked on a dark path,” a voice says, “The world needs the Avatar. It needs you Aang.” A blue blast breaks Aang out of the ice sphere, where he is found by Sokka and Katara.

Aang, Katara, Sokka, Appa, and Momo set off on the journey to stop the Fire Nation. Along the way, they’ll face fierce opponents like Fire Nation prince Zuko, who’s been on a hunt for the Avatar, “I’ve chased down every hint of the Avatar.” said Zuko.

Sharp-eyed fans of the original show will also notice characters such as King Bumi, June the bounty hunter, Kyoshi warriors, and more. There’s also a quick glimpse of Aang riding around on his Air ball before crashing into a statue – a scene pulled directly out of the animated series.

The bending looks great, and combined with the epic soundtrack from the original series, this live-action adaptation is looking very promising.

What Is The Live-Action Series About?

Water. Earth. Fire. Air. The four nations once lived in harmony, with the Avatar, master of all four elements, keeping peace between them. But everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked and wiped out the Air Nomads, the first step taken by the Firebenders toward conquering the world. With the current incarnation of the Avatar yet to emerge, the world has lost hope. But like a light in the darkness, hope springs forth when Aang (Gordon Cormier), a young Air Nomad — and the last of his kind — reawakens to take his rightful place as the next Avatar.

Alongside his newfound friends Sokka (Ian Ousley) and Katara (Kiawentiio), siblings and members of the Southern Water Tribe, Aang embarks on a fantastical, action-packed quest to save the world and fight back against the fearsome onslaught of Fire Lord Ozai (Daniel Dae Kim). But with a driven Crown Prince Zuko (Dallas Liu) determined to capture them, it won’t be an easy task. They’ll need the help of the many allies and colorful characters they meet along the way.
