Popular global pop group JO1 is a part of the superstar lineup for Apple TV+’s song battle series, “KPOPPED”, premiering on August 29. The group will be performing with music icons Eve and Kesha, and giving their songs a K-pop twist.
The Movie Couple had the opportunity to speak with JO1 about their collaboration with Eve and Kesha, what it was like to split their group into two units for this unique performance, and their favorite memories from meeting the music icons. ” It was fantastic. They are so amazing. They are so kind, and they have so much energy and powerful voices. It was amazing.” said the group’s leader, Sho Yonashiro.
When asked about the group’s reaction when they found out they’d be working with Eve and Kesha, member Ren Kawashiri said he was blown away upon hearing the artists’ names, “When I heard their names, I was blown away. They’re truly global artists, very active internationally.” JO1 members recounted the first time they met Kesha, and that it was at a destination surrounded by a lot of nature. ” When we first met the Kesha team, it was in a very natural setting, lots of nature, very green. Then she showed up in full superstar mode, which made it even more surprising.” Kawashiri remembers.
The artists had only 48 hours to rehearse and arrange the staging, and it was vital for them to ensure that any changes to the choreography or song would still fit. That was something JO1 worked hard to emphasize when creating the arrangements.
To their fans, JAM, the group had a special message: “It’s really rare to see JO1 split into different units.
I saw both teams perform, and they were great. So please tell us who won already! We actually don’t know the result yet. Let’s find out together! So please watch the video too,” says Yonashiro.
