The ‘To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before’ spin-off sequel series goes to South Korea
Kitty Song Covey is all grown-up in the spin-off series to the ‘To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before‘ movie franchise. The youngest sister to Lara Jean and Margot is no longer just a matchmaker. She’s embarking on her own adventure in the brand new series ‘XO, Kitty’ to connect with her roots and follow her heart. Kitty has been accepted to the Korean Independent School of Seoul, aka KISS. It is the same school Kitty’s mom attended and just so happens to be the same school her long-distance boyfriend, Dae, attends.
Take a look at the official trailer for ‘XO, Kitty’:
The story will focus on the now 16-year-old Kitty, her adventures at the new school KISS, learning more about her mother’s past, and her romance with Dae. Here’s what you need to know before watching the series
Who Is In The Cast of ‘Kitty Xo’?
Anna Cathcart returns as Kitty Song Covey, the loveable little sister to Lara Jean and Margot in the ‘To All The Boys I’ve Love’ franchise. South Korean actor Minyeon Choi (Twenty-Five Twenty-One) plays Dae, the role that was previously played by Jeon Hoyoung). Making up the rest of Kitty’s new classmates are Gia Kim as Yuri, Sang Heon Lee as Minho, Anthony Kevan as Q, and Jocelyn Shelfo as Madison. Regan Aliyah (Juliana), Yunjin Kim (Jina), Michael K Lee (Professor Lee), John Corbett (Dan Covey), and Sarayu Blue (Trina Rothchilds) are also in the series.
What is the synopsis of ‘XO Kitty’?
The official synopsis is:
“Teen matchmaker Kitty Song Covey thinks she knows everything there is to know about love. But when she moves halfway across the world to reunite with her long-distance boyfriend, she’ll soon realize that relationships are a lot more complicated when it’s your own heart on the line.”
‘XO Kitty’ Will Not Take Place In Portland, Oregan
‘To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before’ creator/co-showrunner Jenny Han wanted to set the story in a different place because this is Kitty’s story. While we’re all familiar with the Covey house, it may also lead the audience to wonder about the other characters from the TATB universe. So while the series will begin in Portland, Oregon, Kitty will end up in Seoul, Korea as she attends her mom’s alma mater, KISS.
Will Lara Jean and Peter Make A Cameo?
While we do see Dan Covey (John Corbett) and Trina (Sarayu Blue) in the trailer, co-showrunners Jenny Han and Sasha Rothschild has confirmed that Lara Jean (Lana Condor), Margot (Janel Parrish), and Peter (Noah Centineo) will not make a cameo in the spin-off series.
Will I Need To Watch The ‘To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before’ Films Before I Watch This Series?
Yes and no. ‘XO, Kitty’ is essentially Kitty’s story, and may only mention Lara Jean and Peter’s story in passing. With Kitty being the main focus and the show being about her journey, it is not necessary for the viewers to need to watch the TATB films. However, given that this series will allow Kitty to learn and reconnect with her mother’s past, it may be beneficial to watch the previous films in the franchise to see how it all begin. Just like the Kitty says in the trailer, “This isn’t just about a boy”, the TATB film franchise is more than just Lara Jean and Peter’s romance. It also explores the family dynamic, sisterhood, growing up, and connecting to their Korean roots. So while not required, watching the previous TATB films can help viewers understand Kitty’s story better.
When Can I Watch ‘XO, Kitty’ On Netflix?
The spin-off series will debut exclusively on Netflix on May 18, with all 10-epsidoes dropping at once. So clear your calendar, grab some snacks, and get ready for a binge-fest.
